New Safety Report Recommends Car Seat Changes

Two recently published reports recommend rear facing child car seats until the child is two years old. These studies showed that children are 5 times less likely to be injured in a car crash if they are in a rear-facing car seat than a forward-facing seat, according to a 2007 analysis of five years of U.S. car crash data.

Texting and Driving

Whether talking or texting, too many San Diego drivers continue to be too distracted to be safe drivers. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Secretary, Ray LaHood, recently spoke about how people need to change their mindset when it comes to using cell phones while driving. “I am willing to bet that a majority of you have used this while driving,” LaHood said, holding up a cell phone.

Saying You’re Sorry

I explain that the other driver has a lawyer who has advised him not to apologize because his apology can be used against him as an admission that the accident was his fault. Driving in California is unlike driving anywhere else. According to the United States Census Bureau, there are around 30 million licensed California drivers … more than any other state. We’ve also got more interstate freeways than any other state. But of the more than 2 million miles of roadway in California, 2 lane roadways are driven more than freeways in the Golden State … and they’re more dangerous too. According to The Road Information Program (TRIP), 77% of all fatal crashes occur on 2 lane roadways, such as State Route 67.

Clients often tell me they’ve heard (it’s usually a friend of a friend kind of thing) that their settlement should be 3 times, or 5 times, or even 10 times the amount of the medical bills. There is no easy formula. The value of your case depends on many factors, including the nature and extent of your injuries, the type of medical treatment you receive, the length of time in treatment, residual injuries (such as a scar or limp) and many other factors.
